Bernard Peak

I was down at Farragut for the Pend Oreille Pedalers annual campout and had to hit up Bernard Peak.  I am always surprised at how fun this trail it.  It is a great climb with a gradual grade and a few spikes to get the hear rate going.

Anyhow, weekend started with a little campfire, beer and some great socializing.

Oh, and did I mention a little science project...

Then wake up and head up Bernard.  Views were awesome!

Went up from Twete Road and then went home via the Scout Trail  To say the Scout Trail is technical isn't quite enough.  There are lots of rocks, mostly all doable but challenging.  All the ferns hanging over the trail add another layer the technicality.
it would be nice to know this info on the way UP

A final word, FAST.  You will go fast on the descent and sometimes bad things happen when you are going fast...like catching your pedal on hidden stumps.

You mention (and show a picture of) the dangers of fast descents down Bernard. Funny thing...my worst crash in the 15+ years of mountain biking and racing was on a social ride, while riding UP Bernard. Sometimes the slow-mo crashes are just as bloody as the fast and furious ones! :)

Ahh, thanks for the reminder Leesa. However, I can't help but think that you probably go a little faster UP hill than most :)
