American Falls

OK, this is gonna be brief.  I love American Falls, but this ride was less than stellar.  The day started with a light mist as I loaded the truck at Indian Creek.  I hoped the weather would get better or at least hold.  Silly. By the time we got to the trailhead, it was raining.  Not a downpour, but plenty to get ya wet.  It had also rained most of the night before.  So, to say things were wet would be an understatement.  They were plain soaked.

As a side note, there was a major wind event up at Priest and the surrounding areas last Spring.  The FS did a nice job of clearing American Falls, repairing some bridges and even putting in a new one up near the falls.

A word on the bridges, damn slick (OK 2 words)!  The following bridge I went down on while walking my bike across it, felt like ice.  Rocks and roots, of which there are plenty on this trail, were not quite as bad but still more challenging than usual.

I wish I had a pic that came out of the trail, it was like a creek.  Several inches of standing water, the ground just wasn't taking it in.  I never rode in any mud, the ground was always hard with the water just sitting on top.  Weird.  This was one wet day!!
