Pend Oreille River Ride Report

OK, I am a little late on writing up this ride.  It happened way back when we had cold temps and ice here on the river...and by river I mean the big one.  So, if you follow my ramblings, you will know I have a fascination with riding ice.  In particular, I have life a mission to ride the big river to Priest River (that is a different river).  I have gone out on several rides with this idea in the back of my head.  For this adventure to occur, we would need some epic conditions.  Meaning we would need sub freezing temps for a very extended period.  Even then it would be a challenge as there are deep shorelines and fast moving water in some areas that probably will never freeze.  Combine that with the fact that some shoreline are unrideable or just plain not there.  Remember, you have the river, then train tracks and then the highway.  And if there is snow, there can't be too much snow for the full day of riding.  So, even in a perfect "ice river world" there would still be some pushing and riding on the tracks.

I knew this particular day would not get us even close to getting half way to PR.  The shoreline had a layer of snow over it that was not quite frozen.  Ice on river was thin and not very extensive.  Snow was rather deep.  All that said, it was still a super fun day riding with friends.  We did make it a couple miles down from Dover.  Then we rode the railroad tracks back home.  Then we had beers and recounted.

Site Changes

In an effort to bring you things that are even bigger and better, I have added a new page to the site.  Look up there at the dashboard, there are now 3 pages.  Yes, a whole 3 pages.  It is like a group of pages.  Anyways, this new page you are now looking at is entitled "Fat Biking Opportunities/Resources."  And like the name implies, it is a page where you can go and see about where to take your fatty.  I hope you like it.

This new page is still kinda of a work in progress, but I felt like I finally got it close enough to release it to you.  If you feel that something should be added, hit me up bikenerd7b@gmail.com

OK, now go look at the new page and then go get rad on your fatty...

Trout Creek Refuge Ride Report

What better way to ring in the New Year and sweat out the previous night's festivities than to go for a fat bike ride?  We headed out to the Trout Creek Wildlife Refuge for the first time this season.  If you are looking for a mellow place to go ride with some great chances of seeing some wildlife, this is the place.

We didn't see any critters that day...except Shadow.  We did have fun riding around on the trails though and then recapped the day's events over good eats and drinks at the Pack River Store.  I hope the whole rest of the year is as good as that day.

Road Trip to No Where Washington

So, we took a little road trip West to...basically the middle of no where Washington.  Along the way we took in a cool frozen lake, got artsy photos of frosty trees, ate at a greasy diner and drank a lot of coffee.  And we hauled our fat bikes.

Once there, where there is, we brewed some beer, made a mess, drank some fine home brew, went to the oldest bar in Washington and went on an awesome bike ride.  We rode over some hills, along a river, through some mud, along some railroad tracks and did some freeriding through the woods.  Yeah, road trips do not suck.
